Are You A Dental Chicken?

For some a trip to the dentist is routine but for a few, even thinking about going to the dentist strikes fear in their hearts. I take great pride in the responsibility of finding ways to help these patients have the dentistry they need in a comfortable and relaxed environment. Often patients that start out as fear patients needing sedation can become patients that are comfortable and unafraid.

After a patients first appointment they begin to see that we truly do care about them and their comfort. Each visit brings reassurance and a feeling of trust. I enjoy working with all of my patients, but to know that I can literally change someone’s life through the dentistry I provide is sincerely rewarding.

Routine Dental Visits = Healthy Cardiovascular Health....and More!

When a patient has routine dental check-ups they can reduce their chances of dental pain and the financial burdens associated with complicated and severe forms of dental disease. An example of dental disease is periodontal disease that may go unnoticed by a lack of routine dental visits. This can progress into tooth loss and pain, but if caught early is easier to arrest and manage.

Routine dental visits allow a dental professional to screen for oral cancers and other underlying health issues. Check-ups allow us to keep up with changes in a patient's systemic health status. It is very important to educate paitents of the correlation between periodontal disease and other systemic conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes.

Persons with periodontal disease are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases than individuals without periodontal issues. The link between the two diseases suggest that the same bacteria that is associated with periodontal disease can contribute to heart disease and stroke. In the diabetic patient, a high blood glucose level helps bacteria grow in the oral cavity. This bacteria growth can make tooth and gum problems worse. Diabetics are 3 times more likely to develop periodontal disease than the non-diabetics person.

It is also important to recognize the effects that medications can have on a persons oral health. Oral conditions such as dry mouth, sores, inflammation and elevated levels of plaque can all be contributed to medications. Your teeth and gums say a mouthful, so routine dental visits are important for a patients overall health.

Prevention Is The Key To Great Dental Health!

In this economy, people may think that they should sacrifice visiting their doctor or dentist in an effort to save some money. This may make sense until they begin to experience pain in their mouth and are forced to have to do something to stop the pain.

Practicing prevention by scheduling and keeping your dental appointments on a regular basis will help keep preventable issues from happening. Finding problems early can easily be treated at a minimal cost, saving a patient the expense of a possible root canal, crown or extraction.

Preventive care is much cheaper for the patient then emergency care. Make those cleaning appointments and if you are told you have a small problem to take care of, then get it done so you can save yourself a lot of grief, pain, and MONEY.
