Funniest/ Most Memorable and/or Most Interesting Moment Experienced in Dentistry:
A few years ago I went on a mission trip to Brazil with four other
dentists. The young teenagers at the orphanage were so appreciative of
everything we did for them. One of the dental units had an electrical
short, and I would always try to get my buddy, an orthodontist from
Louisville, to adjust the light. It actually became quite a joke on the
trip. Our "dental office" was in a building that looked to us like a
garage. Because of the shortness of our trip, the majority of work was
extractions. I have never seen a more thankful group of people who all
got their teeth pulled.
I also led two mission trips to help with home repairs in the Gulf area
after Katrina. On the first trip we replaced shingles on four houses in
New Orleans. One home had an old slate roof in much disrepair that had
to be scraped off first. My son-in-law went with us on the second trip
to Pass Christian, Mississippi, the center of the destruction. Here we
hung drywall and lived in a tool shed. Our shower was a garden hose;
after a long day hanging drywall, it was a piece of heaven! Both times I
was able to see the strength of the people and the love of other
citizens who came to help. Our crews from both trips were able to pray
for the people of the area who had been so devastated. I will always
have fond memories of these trips.

I have assembled 2 large swing sets in the past year - one for each set of grandchildren!
