National Dairy Month: {Dairy and Your Dental Health}

It's National Dairy Month and dairy products are SUPER for your oral health!

How do milk and milk products protect your teeth?

They provide the ideal levels of the nutrients needed to keep
rebuilding your teeth and keep your gums and mouth healthy.

They neutralize or buffer some of the acid formed from sugars
in the mouth.

Cheese can stimulate saliva production. Saliva is the liquid in
your mouth that helps to clear food. Examples of cheeses
found to be “tooth-friendly” include aged cheddar, Gouda,
Blue, Monterey Jack, Mozzarella and Swiss

Studies have shown that cheese and other milk products may help to reduce dental cavities. Having a glass of milk along with sweets can reduce your chances of developing cavities. Chocolate milk is a good choice that provides the same amount of protein and essential nutrients as white milk. The natural and added sugars in chocolate milk, if consumed in moderation, do not cause cavities as they don’t cling to your teeth or stay in your mouth for a long period of time.

Teeth vs. Soda

We know you've heard it before. But, here's a really cool infographic that breaks down the teeth vs. soda argument very well!

Teeth vs Soda - What Soda Does to Your Teeth

National Women's Health Week

This week, communities, businesses, government, health organizations, and other groups come together in an effort to promote women's health (including oral health!) and its importance. It also empowers women to make their health a priority and encourages them to take the following five steps to improve their physical and mental health and lower their risks of certain diseases:

  1. Visit a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventative screenings.
    • Visit your dentist regularly (twice a year!) and ask for an oral cancer screening.
  2. Get active!
  3. Eat Healthy
    • See foods that are good for your oral health here.
  4. Pay attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress.
  5. Avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking, not wearing a seat belt or bicycle helmet, and texting while driving.

World Oral Health Day

Happy World Oral Health Day!

Celebrate.
Look after your teeth so they last you a lifetime.
Healthy teeth for a healthy life.

World Oral Health Day is celebrated every year on March 20th. It reminds us that healthy teeth, gums and mouth play a crucial role in our ability to work or study without constant, nagging and painful toothaches, in our self confidence and in the health of our entire body.

World Oral Health Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness and encourage individuals, families, communities and governments to take measures to lower the incidence of oral disease.

Remember these three steps to maintaining great oral health:

healthy eating
effective home oral care and
regular dental visits
